KATRA, June 11: The newly inaugurated Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar has witnessed a phenomenal public response, with bookings completely sold out for the next ten days, a senior railway official said on Tuesday.
Station Superintendent of Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station, Jugal Kishore Sharma, stated that the train, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, has generated extraordinary enthusiasm among the public.
“There is tremendous excitement among the public. The demand is so high that there are no seats available for the next 10 days,” Sharma said, highlighting the overwhelming response since the train’s inaugural run.
Discussing the appeal of the new service, Sharma noted that the train travels along a picturesque and newly laid route, making it a top choice for passengers. “It’s a new and scenic route, and people are thrilled to travel on it. There is a festive atmosphere among passengers. Everyone wants to experience the ride. That’s why we’re seeing a rush and a long waiting list. Tourists, in particular, are very keen,” he added.
The Vande Bharat Express is equipped with world-class facilities, and passengers have been praising the travel experience. Sharma assured that all efforts are being made to maintain service quality. “We are taking all necessary steps to ensure that passengers have no complaints. If any issues arise, we resolve them promptly.”
He further added that the enthusiasm is not limited to passengers alone. “The railway staff is equally excited. From officers to ground-level employees, everyone is working with full dedication to ensure the smooth operation of the service and maximum passenger satisfaction,” he said.
The launch of the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express marks a major leap in improving transportation infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. The train is a part of the broader Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, aimed at bridging the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country through modern rail connectivity.
The semi-high-speed train significantly reduces travel time between the religious town of Katra and the capital Srinagar, offering a faster, safer, and more comfortable journey for both local residents and tourists. Officials believe the service will not only enhance regional tourism—especially pilgrimages to the Vaishno Devi shrine—but also boost local trade, including the efficient transport of horticultural produce from Kashmir.
