Will Not Repeat PDP Mistake of Joining BJP: NC

NC, BJP Share Tactical Understanding in JK: PDP

KD Correspondent

Srinagar, April 15: National Conference (NC) leader and advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, ruled out any alignment between his party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the National Conference and BJP are “not on the same page in any regard.”

Speaking to the media earlier this week, Wani, as reported by Kashmir Despatch, said, “We will not repeat the mistake made by the PDP. There is no common ground between us and the BJP.” He further criticized the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), suggesting that instead of attacking the NC, the party should reflect on its past actions and the political decisions it made during its tenure.

Meanwhile, in response to Wani’s statements, People’s Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti claimed that the National Conference (NC) has a “tactical understanding” with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir.

She alleged that the NC has repeatedly compromised the interests of the people for political convenience and power. Speaking to reporters, as noted by Kashmir Despatch, Iltija, the daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, stated that the National Conference has no moral authority to advocate for public rights or autonomy.

“They are power-hungry and care little for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” she added.

Iltija emphasized that the PDP’s struggle encompasses much more than just statehood. “We don’t belong to a mere Union Territory asking for statehood. We are a people who had our own constitution and flag. Reducing our aspirations to statehood alone is an insult to our history,” she asserted.

Significantly, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed renewed optimism on Tuesday regarding the restoration of the region’s statehood, citing recent discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah as a source of hope. His remarks come amid escalating tensions with the BJP, which has dismissed the National Conference (NC) leader’s stance as politically opportunistic.
