Clashes erupted near the campus of SSM College of Engineering in Pattan area of north Kashmir with students of the institute demanding action against forces’ personnel responsible for the killing of their mate Gowhar Nazir Dar. The students boycotted their classes and descended on the highway to press for their demands. A college official said that forces used teargas shells to disperse the protesting students, however they wouldn’t relent. 22-year-old Gowhar Nazir Dar, a student of the college, was killed by forces when he went out to buy milk on Saturday evening, his family said. However, police said that Dar was killed after a teargas shell hit him on the head during a demonstration in Zainakote area of Srinagar.
