SRINAGAR, Mar 5: Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) has strongly condemned the remarks made by Governor Satya Pal Malik claiming that successive governments in the state had recruited ‘’radicalized youth as ReTs”.

A section of press had earlier quoted the Governor saying, that ‘’despite taking the salary from state government they are neither committed to the state government nor constitution of India‘’.

While calling it an ‘extremely unfortunate, shameful and irresponsible statement,’ senior trade union leader and spokesman EJCC Bashir Ahmad Ganaie told Kashmir Despatch that the Governor’s statement would subject the teachers to various risks.

“We condemn such shameful statements. It is very unfortunate. Those appointed under SSA or ReT schemes have gone through many layers of verification carried out by different police agencies.” Ganaie said, in a statement issued here.

He further said, “Education has suffered a lot during last three decades due to the non conducive atmosphere in the state. These ReT Teachers put their lives to risk and worked very hard to boost the education sector in the state. They have given the cream of their youth to serve the education department against the meager honorarium of Rs 1500 per month. The schools which were locked for years had been unlocked by these innocent and deprived teachers. We need to encourage and give them honour and respect so that the desired results are achieved. Unfortunately such statements will only discourage the teachers in the department.”

He urged upon the government not to degrade the status of the nation builders, but to give them a status, honour and respect which they actually deserve.
