Srinagar, September 20: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Sujit Kumar on Sunday visited Kupwara and Handwara to review the prevailing security situation, counter-terrorism grid and overall operational preparedness in the two north Kashmir districts.
During his visit to Handwara, the IGP was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir Range Dr Vinod Kumar.
Senior police officers briefed the IGP on various security and operational aspects, including the prevailing security situation, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, intelligence inputs, area domination measures, security of vulnerable locations, law and order preparedness and the crime scenario.
The review also focused on the operational readiness of security forces and the need to ensure an effective response to emerging security and law-and-order challenges.
Kumar stressed the importance of strengthening a public-friendly approach to policing while improving crime disposal and adopting strategies based on field requirements.
He also emphasised the need for police personnel to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of operational preparedness.
The IGP appreciated the commitment and professionalism of police personnel deployed in challenging operational areas and called upon all ranks to continue performing their duties with dedication to ensure the safety and security of the public.
The visit comes as security agencies continue to review their counter-terrorism preparedness and operational mechanisms across north Kashmir.
