SAC Approve Forty More Colleges, But Already Established Lacks Basic Facility

Srinagar, Jan 16 :State Administrative Council (SAC) approved establishment of forty new Government Degree Colleges to be set during 2019-20 and 2020-21 across Jammu and Kashmir in a phased manner, at a meeting which was held on 14 Jan chaired by the Governor of the state Satya Pal Malik,  but already established colleges approved by state Government lacks basic facilities like infrastructure, washrooms, classrooms and as many as 20 colleges are yet to be completed.

Model Women’s college Kupwara,Degree College Hadipora Rafiabad, Degree College Bagi Dilawar Khan are such examples of colleges which still lacks basic facilities.

Government Degree College for women in Kupwara which was established under the central sponsored scheme–Establishment of Model Degree Colleges in Educationally Backward Districts in the year 2013 but till date not a single building is completed and the college is functioning in a middle school building in Sulkoot.

While talking to KNB a professor wishing anonymity said, “Due to lack of infrastructure we are forced to teach our students in lawns under the open sky. During examinations we have keep the middle school off to ensure the room accommodation for the students.

“We approached DC kupwara, Former Secretary Asghar Samoon , present secretary education Sarita chauhan, they assured for the completion of construction but the work is going on the snails pace. The delegation from the UGC and director college also recommend for the completion of work on war bases.” he further said

Like wise, J&K government degree college sanctioned for Rafiabad constituency in Baramulla district some years before and till now Government has failed to set up it’s foundation.

One more college established some seven years ago, Government Degree College (GDC) Bagh-i-Dilawar Khan is functioning from four hired rooms of MP higher secondary school (HSS).

Talking about the establishment of Forty new colleges for state, some local students of the said colleges told, “Government has failed in setting up of already established colleges, we are facing so many problems due to lack of basic facilities, from almost two to three years we are studying in hired rooms of middle schools, high schools.”

“we want Government to focus on our colleges which have been established some seven to nine years ago.”(KNB)
