Sanjay Charaya, 25, a resident from Punjab, is an apple merchant and was hit by several bullets on October 16 at Trenz, Baba Khader, Shopian at around 7:15 pm on October 16. His colleague lost life on the spot and Sanjay was left in a pool of blood.

At SMHS, Pervez is no less than a savior for Sanjay who is bearing all the expenses of his friend even though Rs 50,000 have been released by the concerned Deputy Commissioner.  “I know Sanjay for the last two years. We have family business relation with him since past eight years. For me, he is a brother and more so a family friend,” Parvaiz  said. “Sanjay has a bullet in his chest and is battling for life. I am here to take his care.”

Subash, uncle of injured Sanjay, said that they have no words to thank Parvaiz as he is bearing all the treatment expenses. “He has been with us since October 16,” he said. “It is Parvaiz, who informed us about Sanjay’s injury.” At the hospital, Sanjay’s father Jaspal Charya and his brother in law Rashu were also present, who stated that had there been no restoration of mobile phones in Kashmir, they would not have been able to come to know about Sanjay’s injury in the attack.

Narrating the whole incident, Parvaiz said that “Sanjay was left unattended for about 10 minutes after being shot by unknown gunmen, as he was shot on his arm and on right chest cavity, and later on he was taken to the nearby hospital, by the two locals which were unknown for me. As he was left on the mercy of God for more than 10 minutes, whereas the fruit laden truck was set ablaze by the unknown gunmen.”
