Srinagar, August 25 :Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday announced to tighten the noose on the miscreants and trouble mongers in Kashmir stating that the crackdown will continue against those fomenting trouble.

In an exclusive interview with news agency, top police officer said that they will continue with the crackdown against the miscreants and trouble mongers in Kashmir.  “We will act tough against the trouble mongers,” he said, wishing not to be named.

He said that police was not authorised to speak about the political detentions. “Government spokesman, Rohit Kansal can speak on this issue,” the officer said. Since August 5, police has launched a massive crackdown on the youth across Kashmir, and according to unofficial reports more than 300 youth have been lodged in various police stations in the valley so far.

The government has also lodged more than 100 political leaders in sub jail Centaur where top leaders including Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Sartaj Madani, Sajad Lone, Abid Ansari and many others. Other have been lodged in Cheshmashahi, and Hariniwas. From the separatists, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani remains lodged at Hyderpora residence while as Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is under house detention at his Nigeen residence.

The crackdown on the youth started on August 5, when Centre announced revocation of Article 370 and also bifurcated the State into two Union Territories—J&K and Ladakh.

An official told news agency that while as on one hand crackdown will remain on against the trouble mongers, the decision to release the political leaders lies with the law enforcing agencies only. “Youth arrests are only made after credible evidence about their involvement in fomenting trouble,” the official told.
