World Cup 2019: I won’t be going back home alone – Sarfaraz Ahmed warns Pakistan teammates

Date:

Srinagar, June 18 : If anyone has come under severe criticism after Pakistan were thumped by India in a largely one-sided affair in Manchester on Sunday, it’s been the captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. While many have made fun of his captaincy decisions against India, others blamed him for the rut that Pakistan currently find themselves in at the World Cup 2019.

According to Pakistani media outlet thenews.com.pk, it has been learned that the public outrage after the loss prompted Sarfaraz to issue a stern warning to his teammates, asking them to lift their game or be ready to face the wrath of the public if the below-par performances continue.

Thenews.com.pk revealed that Sarfaraz got quite emotional after the defeat on Sunday and told his teammates that he won’t be ‘the only one going back home’ suggesting that if things don’t change for the better, everyone in the team will have to bear the brunt of a dismal campaign.

If anyone thinks that I will go home, then it is their idiocy. If God forbid something unfortunate happens, then I won’t be the only one going back home, Sarfaraz said.

Sarfaraz also asked his teammates to let go of what’s in the past now and ‘uplift the team’ for the rest of the tournament so that they can hold their heads high going forward.

Forget the bad performance and uplift the team for the remaining four matches, said Sarfaraz.
It is understood that none of the senior Pakistani players including the likes of Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez made any comments during Sarfaraz’s speech.

Pakistan are currently lying 9th on the World Cup 2019 points table with a solitary win from 5 matches. They will next play South Africa on June 23 at Lord’s.
