Bandipora, Apr 27:- The 14 km’s long road constructed by the PMGSY department to Vewan hamlet of Bandipora district had been damaged and in shambles after only passing four years.

The road constructed under PMGSY to Vewan hamlet in Bandipora, has turned out to be a complete failure, with the road now in shambles after just a few years of its construction.

Local villagers while speaking with the Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, said that the road was constructed in 2018, and at that time, it was in good condition. However, due to the lack of maintenance, the road has deteriorated rapidly over the years. They say that the road has not been repaired even once since its construction, which has led to its current condition.

The 14-kilometer road that was constructed at a cost of crores of rupees has now become a nightmare for the people of Vewan hamlet. The road, which was supposed to provide better connectivity to the remote area, has now become a death trap. The road is full of potholes, and the drainage system is non-existent, making it impossible for vehicles to pass through during rains.

The villagers claim that they have been left to suffer because of the apathy of the government. They say that they have to travel on the same road every day, and it has become a major safety hazard for them. The villagers have also accused the contractors of using substandard material while constructing the road, which is why it has deteriorated so quickly.

The local administration, on the other hand, claims that they have been making efforts to repair the road. The administration has also assured the villagers that the road will be repaired soon.

The situation in Vewan hamlet is just one example of the failure of the PMGSY program in providing better connectivity to rural areas. The lack of maintenance and the use of substandard material by contractors are some of the major issues that need to be addressed to ensure the success of the program.

Local peoples appealed to the government to take immediate action to repair the road in Vewan hamlet and ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.

Meanwhile officials from the PMGSY department said that the maintenance of the road will be done as soon as possible. The road had been damaged due to the landslide in the area.
