SOPORE, Dec 26: The residents of Dangerpora area of Zanigeer belt in north Kashmir’s Sopore area demand that the new building of the Primary Health Center be made operational.

“Construction of Primary Health Centre was started in 2007 in Dangerpora village, which went on irregularly at a snail’s pace for the last fifteen years,” said Arsalan Ayoub, a local resident.

“Although the government started work on construction of the Primary Health Center in 2007 it was later abandoned. Healthcare facilities are the urgent need of the residents here as we don’t have any, in our village,” he added.

Mohammad Lateef a local resident of the village while talking to Kashmir Despatch said that the residents are facing immense hardships in absence of healthcare facilities and have to travel at least 7 km in emergencies to reach Sub district hospital.

“For slightest toothache or headache the villagers have to move towards Sub district hospital Sopore. Thousands of people of Zanigeer belt are suffering in absence of health care facilities,” he added. The building was under construction for the past 15 years and was completed two years ago, but had not been made functional, for unknown reasons.

Another resident Fayaz Ahmad said that though the construction on the building was completed, it had not been made operational due to the “careless” approach of the concerned departments and the district authorities.

Speaking to Kashmir Despatch, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sopore, Dr. Zulifqar Ahmad, said that the building was constructed by Rural Development  Department and has not been handed over to health Department yet, due to some incomplete work.

Meanwhile when contacted, Executive Engineer Rural Development Department, did not respond to repeated calls made by this reporter.
