Jammu, Nov 03 ; The 2 J&K Girls Battalion in conjunction with the Department of Anesthesiology, AIIMS, Jammu organised a comprehensive training workshop on Basic Life Support (BLS) for 500 cadets at Nagrota Training Academy.
A spokesperson said that the training aimed to equip the budding leaders with crucial life-saving skills and promote a culture of preparedness and community service. “This session was held on November 2, 2023, during ATC-J5, and witnessed the presence of Col Muneesh Jasrotia, Camp Commandant ATC-J5, and Lt Col Rakesh Yadav, AD Training NCC Directorate JK&L,” he said.
He said that the workshop provided the NCC cadets with essential knowledge and skills necessary to effectively respond during medical emergencies. The NTA auditorium echoed with informative discussions led by a team of six dedicated doctors, spearheaded by Dr. Sunaina Gupta, Additional Professor, focusing on the importance of scene safety and the significance of seeking help through the helpline number 108, he added.
He further said that the cadets were familiarised with the correct procedure of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Chest compression during emergency situations by Dr. Raksha Kundal, Associate Professor, and Dr. Tarandeep, Assistant Professor from the Dept. of Anesthesiology. Dr. Parwaiz and Dr. Sandeepika further enhanced the cadets’ skills, instructing them on methods to improve the breathing of a victim, whether a single rescuer or multiple rescuers were available.
“The workshop also included hands-on training sessions at four stations, allowing participants to gain practical experience in compression and ventilation. Dr. Raksha and Dr. Sunaina provided guidance on the use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to aid those facing sudden cardiac arrest, underscoring its vital role in cardiac emergencies,” he added.
“Also, the cadets were instructed in specialised techniques for delivering Basic Life Support (BLS) to infants, children, and pregnant females. Dr. Aman addressed specific scenarios including recovery choking, drowning, and the management of external bleeding in trauma. The training integrated both lectures and hands-on practice, enabling the participants to build confidence in applying the learned skills,” the Spokesperson said.
“The program concluded with the affirmation that by imparting BLS training to the cadets, the initiative not only empowers them to become responsible and compassionate citizens but also contributes to the broader objective of nurturing a resilient society,” he added.
