2 militants arrested, hunt for others on ADGP

SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Two non-local labourers from Uttar Pradesh were killed during an overnight militant attack in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The attack comes days after a Kashmiri Pandit was killed in a targeted attack in the same district.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that a militant threw a grenade on non-local labourers in Harmain area in Shopian district late Monday night.
He said that in the incident two non-local labourers identified as Manish Kumar and Ram Sagar both residents of Kanoj Uttar Pradesh got injured and succumbed to injuries later.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said that one hybrid militant involved in the act of grenade throwing that led to the killing two labourers from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested late last night and early morning Tuesday, another one was arrested. “Two persons have been arrested so far and the main accused has confessed to the crime,” Kumar said, adding that a hunt for other members of the group is on and very soon they will be tracked down.
Kumar said that during the course of the investigation, it was found that the main accused had lobbed the grenade at the behest of Lashkar-e-Toiba commanders Danish and Abid. “Claim made by Al-Badr is fake. The fact is that Lashkar is behind the act,” he said, adding that searches are underway in the area and very soon Lashkar commanders Danish and Abid will be killed.
Pertinently, on Saturday, militants killed Pooran Krishan Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit at Chowdery Gund village in Shopian.
The killing, part of a series of targeted attacks, triggered protests in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Due to fear of attacks, around 6,000 Kashmiri Pandits are not attending offices for the last five months. They have been protesting and demanding safety and their relocation to Jammu. Pandits say the government is unmoved and unwilling to shift them.
