SRINAGAR, March 27: Hundreds of people including women from different areas of central Kashmir’s Budgam district gathered outside the residence of the two brothers shot dead by the unknown gunmen, on Sunday morning to take part in the funeral prayers.
People from the adjacent villages could be seen heading towards Chattabugh area of Budgam and gathered on the nearby railway track. They were waiting for the bodies of SPO Mohammed Ishfaq Dar and his brother Mohammad Umar, a student who were shot at by the unknown gunmen at their residence on Saturday evening, according to the police.
While Ishfaq (27) died on the spot, his 22-year-old brother later succumbed to his injuries in JVC Hospital.
As the people in large numbers had gathered on the Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal railway track passing through the area, the authorities suspended the train services today as a precautionary measure to avoid any law and order situation.
The slain brothers are survived by their parents, a brother and a sister (married).
Emotional scenes were witnessed as the bodies of the two slain brothers reached their home.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Narbal has submitted a preliminary field report of the incident to the Deputy Commissioner Budgam and has recommended the case for ex-gratia relief to the next of kin (NoK) of the slain brothers.
