With the absence of timber in the forest depots, the forest department has come under severe criticism with the local’s alleging it to be a reason of immense hardships. While talking to KNS, locals said that they are facing immense hardships due to the scarcity of timber in the several forest depots. “The officials are pushing us towards walls as from last couple of months, the depots san timber and after several plead, nothing has been done in this regard,” locals said. The depots in several areas including Forest division Bandipora, Forest division Zangli Kupwara, Forest division Kahemil Kupwara and Forest division Langate are running without timber while the administration are acting it as mute spectator. Locals further urged the state administration to look into the issue and redress their grievance at earliest. “After passing nine months since we have enrolled our names in the department for timber, the authorities seem reluctant to provide the same as they are yet to receive timber from the department thereby leaving us to suffer,” they said. While talking to KNS, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Langate, said that they have issued 90% timber for the depots of Langate forest division. He however said that the department can’t provide the timber as per sanctioned. With the abrupt change in weather in the Valley, the department is not capable to provide timber as per need. “Whatever there is available with us, we are providing the same accordingly,” he said.
