Police Friday foiled the protest march of Food and Allied workers and detained scores of them during a protest against the government for failing to redress their demands. The agitators were protesting under the banner of Food and Allied Workers Union, Jammu and Kashmir (FAWU JK) raising slogans against the government. The workers were demanding enhancement of loading-unloading of bag rates as per rice price index after every six months, grant of minimum wages at par with FCI pattern, Engagement of 17 workers of Mufassil depots and replacement of 12 workers, payment of monthly wages by the 10th of each month, implement pension scheme, grant of lead of city supply, provide/engagement of list man for city supply and provision of work for main stores to our-come the problem of lesser work there. Talking to KNS, the protesting workers said that the strike has entered in 12th day while the authorities seem reluctant to look into the issue. They said that former minister of CAPD, Zulfikar Ali, has also termed the demands genuine but some official for their vested interests are creating hindrance in it thereby leaving them to suffer. “We appeal higher ups to look into the matter and fulfill our demands at earliest,” the workers said.
