Srinagar, Jul 8 : A 22-year-old youth died after drowning in Jehlum river tributary in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.
Reports reaching news agency said that one Yawar Ahmad Narchoor (22) son of Javid Ahmad Narchoor, a resident of Ashagipora had taken to the water body for bath at Bange Nowgam area of the district this evening when the incident occured.
Soon after the news spread, rescue teams were rushed to the spot by the administration. An hour into the operations, as per the reports, youth was recovered and evacuated to Government Medical College Anantnag, however the doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
Confirming the death, Medical Superintendent Anantnag, Doctor Majeed Mehrab told news agency that the youth has purpotedly died due to asphyxiation.
A police official meanwhile said that the body of the deceased youth has been handed over to the family after conduction of medico-legal formalities. (GNS)
