Sopore: Municipal Council Sopore claimed on Wednesday that it has sealed 25 shops in the town for failing to pay rent for many years.

A statement issued to Kashmir Despatch reads: “Today on January 1, 2023, on the kind directions of worthy President MC Sopore and Chief Executive Officer MC Sopore, 25 shops have been sealed on the spot by the tax squad under the supervision of Revenue Officer Shiekh Ishtiyaq Ahmad due to nonpayment of rent, etc., towards MC Sopore.” These tenants were already informed through the medium of a final notice served to them by this council, but they responded in a very poor manner, according to the statement.

Speaking to Kashmir Despatch MC Sopore President Masrat Rasool Kar said that the shopkeepers had been asked to pay up all their dues, which they did not. She said at least three times these tenants were informed, but they didn’t respond. She, however, said that the seal would be removed if shopkeepers paid the rent.
