3 drug peddlers arrested

SRINAGAR, Feb 10: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested three notorious drug peddlers in Sopore and recovered contraband & psychotropic substances from their possession.

“A police party of Police Station Tarzoo at a checkpoint established at Lalad National Highway near Sanctorium Public School intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03D-2694 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Wagay son of Ali Mohammad Wagay and Gulzar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Gani Mir, both residents of Dupatyar Bijbhera Anantnag,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch.

During checking, 10 kilograms of charas were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Besides vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. During preliminary investigation, it surfaced that the arrested drug peddlers were in a bid to sell the contraband substance in Sopore town, police said.

Similarly in another action, a police party of Police Station Tarzoo arrested a drug peddler at Sangrama Chowk and recovered 13 bottles of codeine from his possession. He has been identified as Irfan Syed Antoo son of Mohammad Syed Antoo resident of Amberpora Tarzoo. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Tarzoo and investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
