New Delhi, India – On the occasion of the 31st World Disability Day, the Special Interest Group of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) organized a seminar and cultural programme at the iconic India Gate, New Delhi, under the theme: Amplifying the Leadership of Youth with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future. The event was led by Ms. Farhana Bhat, Special Interest Groups Representative (Indian Representative), Ms. Srishti Bhatnagar, Policy Advisor of SIGR CYC, and Mr. Bhargav R., Government Advisor.
Shri PC Mohan, Hon’ble Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, attended the event as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the importance of promoting inclusivity and empowering youth with disabilities to assume leadership roles in society. Other distinguished guests, as well as leaders in the field of disability rights, joined youth and community leaders from across India to participate in the occasion.
The seminar included insightful discussions on the leadership potential of youth with disabilities and explored ways to create a more inclusive and sustainable future. Experts shared their perspectives on the challenges faced by disabled youth and discussed strategies for empowering them through education, policy reforms, and community-driven initiatives.
The subsequent cultural programme was a vibrant celebration of the talents of young people with disabilities. It showcased various forms of art, dance, and music, demonstrating how youth with disabilities are breaking barriers and making meaningful contributions to society.
