500 NSS student volunteers join ‘Clean India Campaign 2.0’ at KU

SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Nearly 500 NSS student volunteers Wednesday joined the ‘Clean India Campaign 2.0’ at the University of Kashmir.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan inaugurated the day-long campaign, organised by the office of National Service Scheme, KU, under the banner of ‘Mega Swachhta Drive’.

Addressing the students at the Naseem Bagh Campus, where the cleanliness drive was held, Prof Nilofer urged the students to become ambassadors of the message of cleanliness within and beyond the four walls of the campus.

Appreciating the enthusiasm shown by the students in joining the ‘Clean India Campaign 2.0’, the Vice-Chancellor as per a statement issued here said participation of students, including girl students, in such important countrywide initiatives will certainly bring a discernible positive change in the society.

She said it’s the University endeavour to ensure that all its campuses are eco-friendly.

Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir, Dean School of Arts Prof Adil Amin Kak, Dean Students Welfare Prof Aneesa Shafi, NSS programme officers and other officials of the NSS Office were present on the occasion.

In his special address, Dr Nisar appreciated the work being conducted by KU’s NSS and its endeavour to widen its reach to the colleges and schools across Kashmir.

Coordinator NSS Dr Mussavir Ahmad said the student volunteers drawn from teaching departments have shown exceptional enthusiasm in leading the cleanliness drive. He also highlighted the objectives of the ‘Clean India Campaign 2.0’, a month-long countrywide initiative aimed to raise awareness on clean surroundings, through the network of NSS-affiliated institutions and youth clubs.
