Srinagar, 18 July: At least six militants were killed in the last 24 hours in the southern region of Kashmir in two separate encounters.
According to official sources three militants were killed in a gunfight in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that a joint team Army’s 62 RR, Police and central CRPF cordoned the Amshipora village of Shopian district in the wee hours of Saturday.
As the forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, resulting in a fierce gunfight between the sides, in which three militants were killed official added.
Pertinently, Three militants were killed and two soldiers injured, in a gunfight at Nagnad Chimmer area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday.
Shopian Gunfight Police Version
Police in a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch said on a specific input by 62RR about the presence of militants in the village Amshipora area of District Shopian, an operation was launched by them in the said area.
During the search, militants fired upon Army personnel and encounter started. Later on, police and CRPF also joined. During the encounter, three unidentified militants were killed. Dead bodies of all the killed three militants were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militants are being ascertained.
Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.
The dead bodies of the killed militants have been sent to Baramulla for their last rites after conducting medico-legal formalities including collection of their DNA. In case any family claims the killed militants to be their kith or kin, they can come forward for their identification and participation in last rites at Baramulla.
Case FIR No. 42/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Hirpora and investigation has been initiated into the matter.
