Kupwara, Jan 18 : A massive fire broke out and more than 6 shops were gutted in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday night.
Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said residents woke up in the middle of the night and reported seeing the sky lit up. They immediately alerted fire service department.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that major fire tragedy averted by determined Army teams, fire department, JKP in Kupwara town.
He said the fire initially broke out in Cooperative Bank Unit at 11: 30 PM and spread to 6 adjoining shops immediately. The fire department vehicles and Army teams reacted immediately and tried to control the spread. Due to the coordinated efforts between district administration, JKP, Deputy Mayor and Army , additional vehicles available with Army and firefighting teams were rushed to the site.
The coordination and dedicated efforts finally could douse the fire completely by 2 am.
Though 6 shops have been completely gutted in fire, the joint efforts of all stake holders averted a major tragedy in densely packed Kupwara town market the officer added.
