Srinagar August 15: Dr. Owais Ahmad (IAS), Director, Skill Development Department, unfurled the National Flag at Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar today as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The flag-hoisting ceremony was held on the college grounds on 15 August 2026 and was attended by a large and diverse gathering that included senior officials from the Police and paramilitary forces, representatives from the Directorate of Skill Development, principals of polytechnic colleges and ITIs across the region, faculty members, and students from various polytechnic colleges and ITIs.
The event commenced with the National Anthem following the flag hoist. In his brief address, Dr. Owais Ahmad (IAS) highlighted the importance of skill development in nation building and urged students to seize vocational training opportunities to contribute to local and national development. He lauded the role of technical education institutions in empowering youth and praised the collaboration between training providers and industry partners in supporting community resilience.
Dr.Owais Ahmad (IAS), welcomed and thanked all participating institutions and security personnel for their support in ensuring the ceremony’s smooth conduct. The programme also included patriotic songs by students and trainees, showcasing discipline and enthusiasm.
Dr. Owais Ahmad also felicitated the students of Government Polytechnic for Women for their exemplary performance in the recently held examinations, applauding their hard work and dedication.
The occasion reinforced the Department of Skill Development’s commitment to merging patriotic values with practical skill-building, and to preparing students for meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.
