90% students get job after pursuing IHM courses, says Principal

Srinagar, Mar 24 : Maintaining that the job-oriented courses have opened the door of opportunities for the youth of Valley, Principal, Institute of Hotel Management Srinagar, said that after pursuing degree or diploma from the IHM, one can easily get the job in the hotel industry.

“As per previous record, 90% of the students who got the Degree from this institution have been placed in the hotel industry,” Qazi Shabir told news agency KINS in a video interview.

“There are campus interviews here and the students are placed through this. From the last two years, we have seen that a lot of students have shown their interest in the IHM courses. Scores of students from the IHM even have adjusted abroad,” the principal said.

 He said that an eligibility criterion for the degree or diploma courses is 10+2. “Those who have passed the 10+ 2 exam can apply for the degree or the diploma courses”.

When asked what benefits and career options would be available for students after pursuing courses from your college, Qazi Shabir said,“Students after gaining sufficient knowledge can work as a Food Manager, Service Crew and Hotelier”.

He said that with changing technologies and a dynamically developing world, abundant opportunities are present in the outside world for competent individuals.

“Students after pursuing our Diploma courses in the discipline of Hotel Management will be having sufficient knowledge and experience about Tourism, food and they can work as a Food Owner/Manager, Instructor and Hotelier.”

He said that in addition to regular courses, the institute is offering various value based courses to supplement student’s knowledge.

“More female students are now interested in the IHM courses. We have a hostel facility for both the girls as well as the boys in our institution. We have Degrees as well as Diploma courses. If we talk about our track record, we had around 11 thousand students completing their degrees, all of them got placements. We have the support of the Ministry of Tourism”

“If we talk about the students of Jammu and Kashmir three years from now, there was less inclination towards it. But due to the conduct of the Joint Entrance Examination, the number of candidates for these courses has increased. Also, earlier, there used to be more students from outside the UT, but in the past three years, the ratio has reached 50-50. The interest of the students of the Valley is increasing on this course. A lot of awareness has spread here,” he said.

When asked which latest programs are you offering in your institution to help students stand apart from the crowd? He said, “In addition to regular courses, we are offering various value based courses to supplement students knowledge”

We have adopted the concept of project-based and self-directed learning, using value-added courses to bridge gaps between students’ skills and industry requirements and also use case studies while teaching them so that they can clearly relate theoretical concepts with real world scenarios. In addition to this, appropriate internships are arranged by us for them so that they can use their classroom learning to find solutions for real world issues and can build new skills as well”.

When asked which factors make the programs of your institute a best fit and worth pursuing for students?

He said, “Our teaching pedagogies, courses fees, amazing campus and activities we organize makes each course worth pursuing

The quality of education we offer to students, internships, projects and global learning opportunities we provide to them and academic support and career guidance sessions which are regularly organized for their benefit makes each course unique and worth pursuing for students. Apart from this, the amazing campus we have for students, extracurricular activities we regularly conduct for their complete personality development and the kind of classroom environment we have established along with our course fees makes them a best fit for students,”.

He added that under every course, the institute provides work-integrated learning opportunities to students and also regularly connects them with the real world through field visits. “Along with this, we have collaborated with reputed institutions and industries to ensure our students get the best training programs, internships and real time projects. Lastly, they are encouraged to be aware of the latest happenings of the outside world, learn from their mistakes and try new things by coming out of their comfort zone”.

Meanwhile expressing their enthusiasm, the number of students here in the institution said, “We are doing a degree course here. Apart from this, there are numerous short-term courses in this institution. The private sector is flourishing nowadays. Hotel Management is nice for people as being a job-oriented course, after the completion of the degree, one gets a job in any field of hotel management,” the students told KINS.
