Every household will get a tap water facility by the end of this year: DC Bandipora

Bandipora, March 22: As the world celebrates World Water Day, several villages in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are still forced to fetch filthy water from nearby streams and ponds.
Residents of Banyari, Hajin, and Kanbathi villages have to walk miles to collect water, which is often contaminated and unsafe for consumption. They have been complaining to the authorities for years, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Speaking with Kashmir Despatch, the villagers highlighted their plight and demanded a scheduled water supply to their areas.
We are celebrating World Water Day, but we don’t even have access to clean water. “We are forced to drink contaminated water” which is causing health problems for our families, said Sajad Ahmad, a resident of Banyari.
In a government function on World Water Day, several participants raised questions about the lack of safe drinking water facilities in their villages.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad (IAS) talking to the media on the sidelines of a function, said that work on several filtration plants and water schemes had already started in the district. “Every household will get tap water facilities by the end of this year. 430 crores of rupees have been estimated under JJM for different works to provide tap water facilities to every household” he added.
