All arrangements in place; forces using modern gadgetry to ensure peaceful functions: Officials

Baramulla, Aug 14 : Ahead of the 77th Independence Day, security has been beefed up and put on a “maximum alert” across north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations, officials said on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Amod Nagpure, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that security has been intensified for the smooth conduct of August 15 /Independence Day functions across the district.
“Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed for surveillance, and vehicles are being checked at several places to thwart any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the proceedings,” he said while addressing the media persons here.
Forces have been deployed in massive numbers across the district, even as security agencies including police, CRPF and army could be seen carrying out surprise checks of vehicles at the entry and exit points.
The cops were also seen frisking motorcyclists and passengers of the vehicles. Additional bunkers were set up along the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway.
Similarly, in the Sopore police district, additional personnel have been deployed on the ground, while drones are being utilised for aerial surveillance, an official told KNO. He said sniffer dogs are being employed to assist the security forces in inspecting vehicles at various checkpoints.
The security grid is also relying on modern gadgetry like CCTV cameras and human intelligence to ensure a peaceful Independence Day, he said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, S A Raina told KNO that all necessary arrangements are in place for the smooth functioning of Independence Day. He said the main flag hoisting event will be held at 9 am at District Police Lines which will be followed by other activities.
