In a momentous commemoration of the 77th Independence Day, Municipal Council (MC) President of Sopore, Musarat Kar, unfurled the Tricolor at Khushal Stadium on Tuesday morning.
The event marked a proud day for the town, with an impressive parade and the MC President’s salute during a vibrant march past.
Addressing the gathering, MC President Masrat Kar outlined significant developments and ongoing projects. She highlighted that this year, 10 financial grants were approved for various projects. Among these, 8 projects are currently underway with an estimated cost of approximately 18 crore rupees.
“In addition, two new projects, a community hall, and the town’s facelift, are in the pipeline, together worth around 4 crore rupees,” she said.
Of note was the substantial progress in drainage projects, with 5 crore rupees sanctioned out of a total 21 crore rupees project.
She said that, 10 lakh rupees were allotted for the desilting of drains, under the Urban development infrastructure scheme MTMP 2.0/UiDF.
MC President Masrat Kar disclosed an ambitious vision for urban development, encompassing diverse areas such as town beautification, two libraries, urban transport, new educational infrastructure, smart vending zones, green spaces, botanical gardens, and playfields.
She emphasized that foundations for new projects will soon be integrated, including initiatives like Water ATM installations, hydraulic ladder setups, and ornamental lights.
Under the Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns (IDMT) program, 31 projects worth 1 crore rupees are identified and currently in the tendering process. Notably, recent funding of 4 lakh rupees was sanctioned for lighting, with 50% of the allocated amount already released.
In terms of water schemes, the MC President said that a substantial 56 crore rupees allocation was secured for a comprehensive water scheme, addressing vital water infrastructure needs in the region.
The Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) model in the town’s Siddeeq Colony is another significant endeavor, with the project cost pegged at 1.5 crore rupees and already in the tendering stage.
The event celebrated not only the nation’s freedom but also the town’s aspirations and progress under the visionary leadership of MC President Masrat Kar.
During the parade, she was accompanied by ADC Sopore, Shabir Raina, and SSP Sopore, Shabir Nawab. This presence of officials highlights the significance of the event and their commitment to ensuring its smooth conduct.
Pertinently, Sopore witnessed an unprecedented level of participation this year, making it a momentous occasion for the town.
According to reports, people were seen forming queues early in the morning to actively participate in the parade, showcasing their patriotism and enthusiasm for the love of this country on this auspicious day.
