KVK Ganderbal celebrated 77th Independence Day with zeal and fervour

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal celebrated the country’s 77th Independence Day with ut-most zeal and enthusiasm on 15th August 2023.

In the week preceding Independence Day, series of events under Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign were organized to honour & appreciate the martyrs of the country and celebrate the strides made by Nation in different fields.

Under this campaign, the KVK organized awareness programmes, interaction sessions, painting/debate/essay competi-tions, plantation drives and pledge ceremonies to instil a sense of national pride and promote patri-otism among the youth and school children.

Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head hoisted the Tiranga at the Kendra in presence of KVK Staff, representatives of local bodies, students and farmers of the district and conveyed In-dependence Day wishes to the gathering.

This was followed by singing of the National Anthem in unison. Dr. Abidi described that Independence Day is an occasion to commemorate the sacrifice of freedom fighters and recalled the prime sacrifices of the martyrs who laid down their lives to pro-tect the sovereignty of the country.

He further revealed that Meri Maati Mera Desh is an idea to celebrate India’s soil & valor and described this initiative as a unique way of celebrating India’s freedom. On the occasion, he gave a brief deliberation of the achievements of Nation in Agriculture and allied sectors and the future demands to be fulfilled to meet nutritional requirements of the country. Dr. Abidi motivated the staff to work with utmost selflessness and honesty to build a strong nation and reiterated the mission of KVK to work for the welfare of people of the district. During the District level function of Independence Day held at Qamaria Park, Ganderbal District Administration felicitated Team KVK Ganderbal for painstaking efforts to install technological up-scaling in Agriculture & Allied sectors and exemplary services in delivering duties. Special awards were conferred to Dr. F.A.Ahanger, SMS (Plant Pathology) and Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Koul, Pro-gramme Assistant (Computer Science) for their sincere, honest and immense contribution in deliver-ing their official duties during 2022-23.
Recognizing the importance of sustainability of resources, Plantation drive was also con-ducted to enrich green cover, in which indigenous saplings were planted in the KVK farm. The Sci-entists and supporting staff of KVK undertook the Panch Pran pledge affirming their commitment to the country. In the closing ceremony, Senior Scientist & Head, assured that under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai and mentorship of Director Extension Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, the KVK team will work in a cohesive manner with line departments to change the agriculture landscape of the District.
