The 4th National Lok Adalat was successfully organized by the District Legal Services Authority in Srinagar, under the patronage of the J&K Legal Services Authority. The event was held at the District Court Complex in Mominabad Srinagar on December 9th, 2023.
The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Mr. Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority Srinagar, along with the presence of Judicial Officers of District Srinagar. The event was conducted under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, the Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tashi Rabstan, the Executive Chairman of the J&K Legal Services Authority.
A total of 14 different benches were constituted to handle various cases in the Lok Adalat. These benches included three special benches dedicated to the settlement of revenue matters, social welfare matters, and labor cases. Each court bench was led by experienced and respected judicial officers.
The cases brought before the Lok Adalat included civil, criminal compoundable, cheque bounce, traffic challans, bank matters, MACT, land compensation, matrimonial, electricity, and pre-litigation matters. The Lok Adalat successfully settled a significant number of these cases, bringing justice and resolution to those involved.
In motor vehicle accident-related cases, one Lok Adalat bench awarded compensation of Rs. 2,58,75,000. In bank cases, another bench awarded a settlement amount of Rs. 6,77,42,494. Additionally, in a separate case, a settlement amount of Rs. 8,23,50,000 was awarded. These settlements highlight the effectiveness and positive impact of the Lok Adalat in providing fair resolutions to those involved.
Overall, a total of 58,811 matters were taken up, and an impressive 52,774 matters were settled, showcasing the efficiency and success of the National Lok Adalat. The settlement amount realized from these cases was an outstanding sum of Rs. 18,42,60,478.
The 4th National Lok Adalat held in Srinagar can be considered a significant step towards promoting access to justice and resolving legal matters in an efficient and amicable manner. The successful settlement of numerous cases demonstrates the commitment of the District Legal Services Authority and the judiciary to ensure justice for all.
