Srinagar, August 17: As rumors are circulating about the unlikely participation of the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the upcoming Assembly Elections, the National Conference is taking a final call on it, sources said.
Sources close to the National Conference’s top leadership confirmed to Kashmir Despatch that the party will take a final call on the participation of Vice President Omar Abdullah in the upcoming Assembly Elections.
Sources said that in the next few days, the party is meeting, and accordingly, the decision will be made.
For some time now, rumors have been circulating that NC Vice President Omar Abdullah will not participate in these Assembly Elections. This matter gained more attention when Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah also said that if Omar Abdullah has stated that he will not contest the elections until the statehood is restored, then he will also not contest. At the same time, he also said that when the statehood is restored, he will surely contest.
Farooq Abdullah further said that I will contest assembly election how’ver when state status is granted I will step down and Omar will contest he added.
The Assembly Elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases from September 18 and results will be announced on October 04.
Meanwhile, the National Conference in its official microblogging site X has posted that Omar Abdullah has said the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, in its first order of business after the elections, will pass a resolution against the central government’s decision to strip the region of its statehood and special status.
