Srinagar, August 24: The National Conference-Congress alliance for the upcoming Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir has taken a concrete shape, dispelling the recent rumors around the alliance.
Top sources close to the leadership of both parties have confirmed to Kashmir Despatch that the alliance is almost finalized and the candidate list is set to be released within the next 24 hours.
“The rumors being spread since yesterday are merely tactics to weaken both parties. However, this will only make the party stronger, and now the people will respond to these planted rumors through their votes,” said a source.
According to the sources, in the first phase, the National Conference will field candidates for 15 seats, while the Congress will contest 9 seats. The seat of CPI leader Tarigami will also be part of this alliance.
“The alliance has been finalized, and the talks in Delhi are focusing on the final details. The list for the remaining two phases will also be released within 24 hours,” sources further added.
Sources close to the top leadership of both parties revealed to Kashmir Despatch that in Phase 2, Congress wanted a few more seats than what was initially decided between the two parties. However, after proper understanding, both sides agreed on a mutual understanding.
In Phase 3 in north Kashmir, the sources indicate that the National Conference may get more seats than Congress, including in Baramulla, Rafiabad, and Uri, while Congress is expected to get Sopore.
