SRINAGAR, Nov 22: The Department of ENT at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital has achieved a significant milestone by successfully operating on a case of angiofibroma, a rare and complex nasal tumor. This marks the first time such a surgery has been performed within the health department, setting a new benchmark in peripheral healthcare services.
The groundbreaking procedure involved the complete endoscopic clearance of a Fischer 3A angiofibroma, a tumor known for its severe bleeding and nasal obstruction. Typically treated only in tertiary care hospitals, the successful operation at JLNM has garnered widespread appreciation for elevating the capabilities of the region’s peripheral healthcare system.
The surgical team was led by Dr. Omar Shafi, Dr. Mudasir Ul Islam, and Dr. Neelam, with critical support from the anaesthesia team headed by Dr. Aarifa and Dr. Manzoor, and assisted by Dr. Akif and Dr. Alfer. Theatre staff, including Dr. Samiullah and Bashir Ahmed, also played vital roles in the operation. Muneer Ahmad, another key team member, ensured seamless coordination throughout the procedure.
The team expressed gratitude to Director of Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangir Bakshi, Medical Superintendent Dr. Tariq Jan, and the administrative department of JLNM Hospital for their constant support and encouragement.
The patient, who had been suffering from recurrent severe nasal bleeding and nasal obstruction, is reportedly recovering well after the surgery.
Angiofibroma is a rare but serious condition, often requiring high-level expertise and advanced facilities to manage the excessive bleeding it causes during surgery.
