The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2024) concluded today at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Goa. This year’s festival saw participation from a record 11,332 delegates, reflecting a 12% increase compared to IFFI 2023. Delegates hailed from all 34 states and Union Territories of India, alongside over 1,800 international participants from 28 countries.

At the Film Bazaar, participation soared to 1,876 delegates, up from 775 last year, with representatives from 42 countries. Business projections exceeded Rs 500 crore, representing a notable milestone for the event. The Tech Pavilion, featuring 15 industry partners, served as an exciting hub for delegates, achieving sponsorship worth Rs 15.36 crore from various industry contributors.

The festival’s opening and closing ceremonies showcased star-studded appearances and vibrant performances, celebrating both Indian and international cinema. The opening ceremony paid tribute to the centenary celebrations and the rich diversity of Indian filmmaking. Meanwhile, the closing ceremony featured musical and dance performances while recognizing exceptional achievements with awards. The prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Philip Noyce, while Vikrant Massey received the Indian Film Personality of the Year Award.

The theme of IFFI this year centered on “Young Filmmakers,” aligning with the vision of the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, who emphasized their potential in shaping the future of creativity. The initiative, Creative Minds of Tomorrow, was expanded to support 100 young talents, up from 75 in previous editions. Approximately 350 young film students from various film schools across the country were facilitated by the Ministry to attend IFFI. Additionally, a new award for Best Debut Indian Director was introduced to recognize emerging filmmaking talent in India. Curated masterclasses, panel discussions, film markets, and tailored film packages were provided for these young creators. A new entertainment zone, ‘IFFiesta,’ was launched to enhance youth participation and engagement.

The 55th International Film Festival of India also honored four legendary figures of Indian cinema: Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), Raj Kapoor, Mohammed Rafi, and Tapan Sinha. In celebration of their centenary legacies, the festival spotlighted their remarkable contributions through meticulously curated events, a stamp release, special screenings, and performances.
