Bandipora, Aug 3: More than 80 people were rescued by Bandipora Police after multiple cloudbursts and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall hit several parts of the district on Monday, damaging houses and infrastructure but causing no loss of life.
Officials said police teams were rushed to the affected areas of Arin, Dardpora, Sumlar, Aragam and other vulnerable locations following reports of rising water levels and flash floods.
The largest rescue operation was carried out in Neelupati Sirender, where over 80 stranded people were safely evacuated to secure locations. In Tota Mode, two families were rescued after their houses were damaged in flash floods, while three residential houses sustained damage in Sathri village.
In Gori Hajin and Aragam, police, assisted by JCB machines, evacuated several families trapped by floodwaters. Rescue teams also brought to safety passengers stranded near the Tangwani-Garoora bridge after water levels rose suddenly.
Officials said residential houses, roads and other public infrastructure were damaged at several locations across the district due to the heavy rains and cloudbursts. However, no casualties were reported as timely rescue efforts prevented any major tragedy.
Police personnel remain deployed in vulnerable areas to monitor the situation and assist residents. Authorities have urged people to avoid flood-prone areas and follow weather advisories as the Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall in the coming days.
