Awantipora, Dec 27 : In a proactive move to protect individuals from cyber exploitation, Police Awantipora has issued a strong advisory against sharing explicit content on social media platforms.
Police in a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch reads, On December 26, 2024, the police received a written complaint regarding the circulation of an indecent video involving a local individual. The report indicated that the video was being shared across various social media platforms and WhatsApp groups by multiple individuals.
Upon receiving the complaint, Police Awantipora took immediate action by registering a case under FIR No. 186/2024, in accordance with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. The investigation began promptly, and preliminary findings confirmed the allegations. As a result of their swift response, the police successfully apprehended those involved in this offense.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to identify and arrest any additional individuals implicated in the crime.
In light of this incident, Police Awantipora has issued a crucial advisory to social media users, emphasizing the legal ramifications of uploading or circulating explicit content. Such actions are not only unethical but also constitute a punishable offense under the Information Technology Act, which carries penalties of up to seven years in prison and fines reaching ten lakh rupees.
The police encourage responsible social media usage and remind the public that anyone found disregarding these guidelines will be dealt with according to the law the statement further reads.
