Srinagar, Jan 02: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Kashmir is an integral part of India’s identity, reinforcing its significance beyond politics and geography.

During the launch of the book “Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh: Through the Ages” in New Delhi, Amit Shah asserted that Kashmir is fundamentally woven into the identity of India.

He pointed out the region’s rich historical and cultural heritage, which spans over 8,000 years, and emphasized that Kashmir’s connection to India is not merely about territorial claims; it reflects a civilizational bond.

In his address, the Union Home Minister discussed Article 370, characterizing it as a temporary measure. He noted that the removal of Article 370 in 2019 was vital for fostering peace, stability, and development in the area. According to Shah, since the abrogation, there has been a notable decrease in separatism and terrorism, as the underlying structures supporting these issues have been dismantled.

Shah commended the Modi government’s decisive action that facilitated the abrogation, calling it a transformative step toward creating a “Naya Kashmir.”

He mentioned that PM Modi had announced a financial package of Rs. 80,000 crore, stating that not only has terrorism been contained, but the entire ecosystem that enabled it within the valley has also been dismantled. Shah further explained that Article 370 and 35A were significant barriers preventing Kashmir from merging fully with the rest of India.

He added that the strong commitment to abolishing Article 370 has set the stage for Kashmir’s development in tandem with the nation.

“From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Gandhar to Odisha, and Bengal to Assam, our cultural connections bind us together,” he stated, illustrating how the unity of India is reflected in its diverse cultural heritage.

At the event, hosted by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Shah emphasized the significance of ancient texts that reaffirm Kashmir’s long-standing relationship with India. He reiterated that Kashmir is an integral part of India’s essence, highlighting its importance beyond mere political or geographical considerations.

The Role of ICHR in Challenging Separatist Narratives

The Home Minister praised the ICHR for its thorough research efforts, which he believes effectively counter separatist claims and highlight Kashmir’s profound cultural, historical, and spiritual ties to India. The book aims to illuminate Kashmir’s past, providing a more accurate representation of its role within India’s larger cultural narrative.

Kashmir’s Significance in India’s Identity

In closing, Amit Shah reaffirmed that the abrogation of Article 370 has not only facilitated peace and development in the region but has also underscored a historical reality: Kashmir is an intrinsic part of India’s identity, with connections that stretch back millennia.
