Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, today said that the Poonch-Tangmarg road project will be taken up with the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MORTH) afresh.
The Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a question raised by MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, and subsequent supplementaries raised by Aijaz Jan and Mohammad Akram Choudhary. He said that the Poonch-Tangmarg road via Loran has not been sanctioned by the Government of India.
Addressing the concerns raised by the legislators regarding the change in the alignment of the road, the Deputy Chief Minister said that an inquiry will be conducted to resolve the issue. He also announced that a committee will be constituted, comprising concerned officers and authorities, to look into the matter.
He further emphasized that this road is crucial for connecting Pir Panjal to the Kashmir Valley and will significantly boost tourism, besides creating employment opportunities for the youth. Additionally, he highlighted the cultural and societal significance of the road for the people of both regions. The road will also help reconnect families that have been separated due to the lack of road connectivity. Moreover, the Poonch-Loran-Tangmarg road will be the shortest route linking the Pir Panjal region with the Kashmir Valley, reducing travel time and enhancing accessibility.
