In 2 years, 32 killed, 269 injured in man-animal conflict incidents in J&K

Jammu, Mar 08 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday revealed that 32 persons died while 269 others sustained injuries in the man-animal conflict incidents across the Union Territory in the past two years.

In a response to a query raised by MLA Mir Saifullah, the government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) stated that a total of Rs 2.76 crore has been paid as compensation to the victims and their families during this period.

The Minister In-charge of Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department, said that 16 people lost their lives in 2023-24, while another 16 deaths were reported in 2024-25 in the incidents of man-animal conflicts.

Similarly, the number of people injured in such incidents stood at 124 in 2023-24 and 145 in 2024-25. As many as 269 injuries were reported in the past two years.

Refuting claims that no compensation was provided to the families of victims, the Minister clarified that compensation is being paid in accordance with the government order No. 139 JK (FST) of 2023, dated: 28.06.2023.

In 2023-24, a total of Rs 1.21 crore was disbursed as compensation, while in 2024-25, the amount increased to Rs 1.55 crore, bringing the total compensation paid over the two years to Rs 2.76 crore, it added—(KNO)
