Says repairs to begin soon, Rs 48.82 lakh allocated for infrastructure upgradation

Jammu, Mar 08 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday said that the tourism assets at Watlab in North Kashmir’s Sopore area are not defunct and concrete steps are being taken to boost tourism infrastructure there.
Responding to a query raised by MLA Irshad Rasool Kar, the Minister In-charge Tourism Department, said that the government has projected the upgradation work under the Capex Budget for 2024-25 — upgradation of assets (Cafeteria, 6 Double Room Huts with Kitchen, Meeting Hall, 5-Bedroom Guest House, etc.) at Watlab, Sopore.
He said that the department has already prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for carrying out repairs and upgradation, including fixing sanitary fittings, restoring the drainage system, painting, and other allied works.
The estimation project cost is Rs 48.82 lakh, while approved allocation Rs 10.00 lakh, however, Rs 8.00 lakh stand released so far, he said.
The Minister clarified that the tourist infrastructure at Watlab, Sopore is not defunct but requires renovation and upgradation to enhance visitor experience.
The Minister further stated that the Tourism Department is committed to enhancing tourism potential in Sopore by promoting Watlab and other nearby destinations through sustainable tourism campaigns and including these locations in tourism promotional literature and materials—(KNO)
