Srinagar, May 24 : A massive protest was held by a family in the premises of the hospital after the death of a 34-year- old youth from South Kashmir’s Pampore town due to alleged medical negligence.
Shiekh Aamir, the cousin of the deceased patient Waseem Nabi Pathan, a resident of Bilal Colony Pampore said that Waseem complained of pain in the intestine and they brought him to the Paras Hospital, where a doctor namely Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh attended him. The doctor said that the patient has a cyst and needs a normal operation that costs Rs 2.50 lakh.
We paid the money, and after the operation, he was discharged but developed pain once again. We brought him again to the Paras Hospital Srinagar, and again we were asked to pay Rs 2.50 lakh for yet another operation.”
“We were not allowed to enter the hospital ward. During the last hours of the patient, the doctor was not present in the hospital but was directing his assistants what to do and what not to do,” he said.
The brother of the deceased youth told reporters that Paras Hospital is a slaughterhouse, a money minting machine. He said his brother was an unmarried 34-year-old who had returned from Saudi Arabia recently and had started a tour and travel business. The family appealed to the Health Minister Sakina Itoo, and Srinagar district administration, particularly Deputy Commissioner Dr Bilal Mohiuddin, to give them justice and take stern action against the hospital management.
