Sringaar, Sep 10: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has launched an online service that will allow residents to book waste bins for their homes and establishments, in a move aimed at improving waste-management services across the city.
The service was launched by SMC Commissioner, who said the initiative is intended to make the process of obtaining waste bins more convenient and accessible for residents.
Under the new system, people will be able to request waste bins online instead of visiting municipal offices. The initiative is expected to streamline the distribution of bins and help the civic body maintain better records of requests and deliveries.
The online facility is also part of the SMC’s broader efforts to strengthen solid-waste management in Srinagar and encourage residents to dispose of household waste responsibly.
Officials said improved access to waste bins can help reduce the dumping of garbage in open spaces and improve cleanliness in residential and commercial areas.
The civic body has been working to modernise its waste-management system as Srinagar continues to generate increasing quantities of municipal waste.
The SMC has urged residents to make use of the new online facility and cooperate with sanitation workers by ensuring that waste is disposed of properly.
