Jammu, Aug 28 ; In a proactive response to widespread disruptions caused by heavy rainfall, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway, in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and district administration, operated two special trains today to evacuate stranded tourists and passengers.
The regular train services were suspended earlier as a safety precaution due to severe weather conditions that caused significant disruption across the region.
The first special train, No. 02238 (Jammu-Varanasi Special), departed from Jammu at 15:45 hours carrying approximately 1,200 to 1,400 passengers. Shortly after, a second special train, No. 04680 (Jammu-New Delhi Special), also departed Jammu at 17:40 hours with around 1,200 passengers safely onboard.
The initiative was led by dedicated railway teams under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Shri Vivek Kumar and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SrDCM) Shri Uchit Singhal, who coordinated with multiple departments to ensure the smooth and safe departure of the trains. Personnel from the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) played a prominent role in managing the crowds and assisting passengers onto the trains.
Passengers expressed immense relief and gratitude for the swift action taken by the railways. Many were elated by the administration’s proactive measures in arranging special services under challenging circumstances, thanking officials for the smooth arrangements after they were left stranded by the heavy rains.
