DPS Srinagar Shines at National Thang Ta Championship with Four Medals

SRINAGAR, Nov 5: Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar, has once again brought laurels to the Valley with a stellar performance at the 31st Sub-Junior and Senior National Thang Ta Championship 2025, held in Goa from October 28 to 30. Competing against a strong field of athletes from 26 states across India, the young martial artists of DPS Srinagar showcased exemplary skill, discipline, and determination, finishing with an impressive medal tally of one gold, two silver, and one bronze.

Leading the contingent with a remarkable display of strength and focus, Farjumand Riyaz of Class 6th A captured the gold medal in the Sub-Junior Girls’ 25kg category. She dominated her matches throughout the tournament and sealed her victory with a commanding win in the final bout against her opponent from Maharashtra, earning her the national title.

Supporting this golden triumph were two outstanding silver medalists, Zynah Sartaj Mantoo of Class 7th H and Seerat Fatima of Class 6th G. Zynah demonstrated incredible tenacity in the Sub-Junior Girls’ 37kg category, securing three successive wins before narrowly losing in a thrilling final to Bihar. Seerat too exhibited commendable skill and determination in the Sub-Junior Girls’ 52kg category, clinching silver after two strong victories and a close final against Assam.

Adding further glory to the school’s achievement, Tabin Peerzada of Class 4th B earned a bronze medal in the Sub-Junior Boys’ 25kg category. His impressive run included two solid wins before a narrow semi-final defeat, which nevertheless earned him a well-deserved place on the podium.

The school also lauded the efforts of other participants who performed with commendable enthusiasm and discipline. Onizah Qadri (12th H), Noorain Wani (7th G), Khadija Arfat (6th I), Arhan Ashraf (6th G), and Arsh Bhat (7th B) all displayed remarkable sportsmanship and contributed significantly to the team’s strong standing in the national event.

Principal Ms. Shafaq Afshan expressed immense pride in the students’ performance, noting that the achievement reflected their perseverance, discipline, and dedication. She said the victory was a direct outcome of their relentless hard work and the exceptional guidance of their coaches, adding that each participant had represented DPS Srinagar with distinction and grace.

Echoing similar sentiments, Chairman Mr. Vijay Dhar congratulated the young athletes, stating that DPS Srinagar has always been committed to fostering both academic and co-curricular excellence. He said that the students’ national-level success was a shining example of the school’s belief in holistic education and a moment of pride for the entire school community.

The impressive performance at the national championship stands as a testament to the commitment of DPS Srinagar toward nurturing young talent in every sphere. The medals won in Goa not only highlight the skill and spirit of its students but also reaffirm the school’s vision of empowering learners to excel both in academics and extracurricular pursuits.
