Jammu, Dec 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday chaired a Cabinet meeting in Jammu, during which the Council of Ministers discussed three key agenda items related to governance, administrative reforms, and legislative updates.
Official sources said that the Cabinet deliberated on compliance with recent court rulings, underscoring the government’s commitment to aligning administrative actions with judicial directions. The issue was discussed in detail to ensure timely and effective implementation of court-mandated measures across departments.
The Cabinet also examined a proposal concerning the change in nomenclature of certain posts within the administration. The move aims to rationalise designations in line with evolving roles, responsibilities, and contemporary administrative requirements.
Another agenda item was the amendment of laws related to leprosy, they said.
According to sources, the Cabinet discussed a proposal to raise the salary level of Village Level Workers (VLWs) of the Rural Development Department. The issue has been under consideration for some time, with VLWs seeking parity and better remuneration in view of their expanding responsibilities at the grassroots level.
Sources further said that one of the major agenda items was the proposed allotment of five marlas of land to families whose houses were damaged or destroyed due to flash floods and landslides triggered by cloudbursts and torrential rains during the recent monsoon season in Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal is intended to provide relief and rehabilitation to affected households.
All Cabinet ministers were present during the cabinet meeting.
It may be mentioned here that the UT Cabinet decisions are subject to approval of the Lieutenant Governor.
