BANDIPORA, Dec 28: A major security alert was sounded on Sunday after a suspicious object was detected along the strategically important Bandipora–Sopore road in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, prompting authorities to immediately suspend traffic and seal the area as a precautionary measure.
According to reports reaching from the area, the suspicious object was noticed near Magnipora village, triggering concerns over a possible threat to public safety. Soon after the information was received, security agencies swung into action and a joint team comprising personnel from the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
As part of standard operating procedures, the entire stretch around the suspected site was cordoned off to prevent civilian movement. Traffic on the busy Bandipora–Sopore road was completely halted, causing temporary disruption to commuters. Authorities also diverted vehicles through alternate routes to avoid congestion and ensure the safety of the public.
Officials on the ground asked civilians to stay away from the area and strictly follow instructions issued by security personnel. Security forces launched a thorough search operation, with bomb disposal squads expected to examine the object to ascertain its nature.
Sources said that such precautionary steps were taken to rule out any possibility of an explosive device or other security threat, especially considering the road’s frequent use by both civilian and security convoys.
Meanwhile, the situation remained under close watch, and security around the area was further intensified. No injuries or damage were reported till the filing of this report.
More details are awaited as security agencies continue their investigation and clearance operation.
