HANDWARA, Dec 28:
A potential fire tragedy was averted on Sunday morning after a blaze broke out in a cowshed at Mugdam Mohalla of Chottipura village in north Kashmir’s Handwara area, owing to the swift and timely intervention of the Indian Army.
According to locals, the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit from a nearby electric pole. The flames rapidly engulfed the cowshed and threatened adjoining residential structures in the densely populated locality, triggering panic among residents.
Upon receiving the alert, Indian Army personnel stationed at Langate immediately rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting efforts using fire extinguishers and a water bowser. Their prompt action successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to nearby houses until the Handwara Fire Brigade arrived and joined the operation.
“The Indian Army’s quick response saved our homes and prevented a major disaster,” said a local resident, expressing relief and gratitude.
While no loss of life or injuries were reported, officials confirmed that the cowshed along with stored grass and fodder was completely destroyed in the incident.
Residents praised the Indian Army’s approach and humanitarian role, stating that the timely assistance once again strengthened the Awaam and Jawaan bond and reflected the Indian Army’s deep commitment to the safety and well-being of civilians. Authorities have meanwhile advised residents to ensure proper maintenance of electrical installations, particularly during the winter season, to prevent such incidents.
