NEW DELHI, April 25: In a significant push towards strengthening India’s maritime security framework, the Indian Coast Guard on Friday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Offshore Tactical Management (OTM) Administrative Complex at Puducherry, marking a major milestone in enhancing coastal surveillance and response capabilities along the eastern seaboard.
The newly constructed facility at Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 13 was formally inaugurated by Paramesh Sivamani, Director General of the force, in the presence of senior officials and personnel. The inauguration signals a forward leap in operational preparedness and administrative efficiency, reinforcing India’s commitment to safeguarding its vast maritime frontiers.
Described as a cornerstone of the Coast Guard’s vision of a “Modern Force, Modern Infrastructure,” the complex integrates advanced systems with contemporary architectural design. At its core lies a fully equipped Operations Centre and the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC), Puducherry. Together, these units will serve as the nerve centre for real-time command, control, and coordination of maritime operations.
Officials said the integrated infrastructure has been meticulously designed to ensure rapid, agile, and coordinated responses to a wide spectrum of maritime challenges, including search and rescue missions, pollution control, anti-smuggling operations, and coastal security threats.
The District Headquarters No. 13, headquartered in Puducherry, plays a crucial role in monitoring and securing an extensive coastline stretching over 140 nautical miles. This jurisdiction covers not only the Union Territory of Puducherry but also key coastal districts of central Tamil Nadu, making it strategically vital in India’s eastern maritime grid.
With increasing maritime activity and evolving security dynamics in the Bay of Bengal region, the need for enhanced surveillance and faster response mechanisms has become paramount. The newly inaugurated OTM complex is expected to significantly bolster the Coast Guard’s operational reach and efficiency in the region.
Senior officials highlighted that the facility would strengthen inter-agency coordination and improve situational awareness, thereby enabling better protection of life and property at sea. It will also play a pivotal role in preserving the fragile marine ecosystem by facilitating timely interventions in cases of oil spills or environmental hazards.
The inauguration underscores the Indian Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to national security, maritime safety, and environmental stewardship. It also reflects the government’s broader push to modernise coastal infrastructure in line with emerging challenges and global best practices.
As maritime threats grow increasingly complex, the new facility at Puducherry stands as a symbol of preparedness and resilience—ensuring that India’s eastern seaboard remains secure, responsive, and future-ready.
