Jammu, September 18: The Department of Hindi, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, concluded the Hindi Week today with great enthusiasm. Organised from September 14 to 18, 2026, on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, the programme aimed to promote interest in Hindi language and literature and to enhance students’ creativity, linguistic skills and confidence in expression. Students from different departments participated enthusiastically in the various competitions organised during the week.
The valedictory function was held after the Kavya Path Competition, during which the results of all the competitions were announced and prizes and participation certificates were distributed among the winners. Non-Participant students contributed and gracing the stage by reciting their poetry. Dr. Tarseem Kumar, Head, Department of Dogri, also presented his self-composed poem in Dogri, adding a special literary touch to the occasion.
The Chief Guest of the valedictory function was the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Kulvinder Kour. Prof. Sarabpreet Kour, Senior-most Faculty Member, Department of English, was the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Vijender Kumar, Head, Department of Sanskrit, was the Special Guest. Dr. Renu Anand, Dr. Rabia Javed and Ms. Anita Kotwal, Hostel Warden, also graced the occasion. Faculty members from the Departments of Hindi, Sanskrit and Dogri were also present.
In the Essay Writing Competition, Avishi Sharma of 3rd Semester secured the First Prize, Aditi of 3rd Semester the Second Prize and Shradha Agrawal of 3rd Semester the Third Prize. In Dictation (Shrutlekh), Swati of 5th Semester secured the First Prize, Nindini Saroch of 5th Semester the Second Prize and Tanvi Choudhary of 5th Semester the Third Prize. In Slogan Writing, Dhanshika Salgotra of 5th Semester secured the First Prize, Akshita Gupta of 1st Semester the Second Prize and Priya of 3rd Semester the Third Prize. In Extempore (Aashu Bhashan), Samridhi of 3rd Semester secured the First Prize, Ridhima Sharma of 3rd Semester the Second Prize and Vaani Verma of 3rd Semester the Third Prize. In Kavya Path, Suneha Sharma of 5th Semester secured the First Prize, Vidhi Verma of 5th Semester the Second Prize and Priyanshi Sharma of 5th Semester the Third Prize.
The competitions were judged by faculty members from different departments. The jury for Essay Writing comprised Dr. Puja Sharma, Dr. Deepika Sharma and Dr. Rukhsana Bibi; the jury for Dictation comprised Dr. Bindu Chib, Prof. Poonam and Dr. Nazia Bibi; the jury for Slogan Writing comprised Dr. Sarita Parihar, Dr. Pooja Charak and Dr. Jagmeet Kaur; the jury for Extempore comprised Prof. Sarita Parihar, Dr. Kiran Kalra and Dr. Balbir; and the jury for Kavya Path comprised Dr. Kiran Kalra, Dr. Tarseem Kumar and Dr. Varchaskam Sharma.
Prof. Poonam, Department of Hindi, delivered the Welcome Address, while Aditi, a student of 3rd Semester, anchored the proceedings. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Bindu Chib, Head, Department of Hindi, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, esteemed guests, jury members, faculty members and students for their valuable contribution to the successful organisation of the Hindi Week.
