Jammu, 19 Sep: Jammu Division is continuously achieving new milestones in its freight loading business. Along with passenger amenities, and as part of its commitment to promote freight transportation, the Division has successfully loaded *6 BCN wagons laden with Rice commodity* from *Anantnag Goods Shed* to Shaheed Captain Sunil Kumar Choudhary Kathua* Railway Station. The consignment consisted of approximately *7920 bags of rice*.
Recently, an outward BCN wagon loaded with cement of Ganpati Traders was also dispatched from Shaheed Captain Sunil Kumar Choudhary Kathua to Anantnag Goods Shed. Continuing this sequence, the inclination of traders towards the Railways is increasing, and the third indent has already been placed.
This transportation of food grains from Kashmir Valley towards the Jammu region is not only an important link for local trade, but it is also proof that small and medium traders of the Valley are now availing the affordable and reliable freight services of the Railways. With the facility of booking fewer wagons without the compulsion of booking a full rake, the enthusiasm for rail transport among traders has increased. Compared to road transport, sending goods by rail is more secure, less expensive and remains unaffected by adverse weather conditions.
In this regard, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, *Shri Uchit Singhal* said, “Our continuous effort is to activate all the Goods Sheds of Kashmir Valley for freight loading. This loading of 6 BCN wagons with rice from Anantnag is the result of the same effort. It will provide a strong medium for the farmers and traders of the Valley to transport their produce and products to Jammu and other markets of the country.”
He further said that Jammu Division is ensuring better infrastructure, quick booking process, timely availability of wagons and round-the-clock assistance for the convenience of traders at all Goods Sheds. Under the new business policies of the Railways, freight loading has been made simpler and more attractive.
This loading is an important step towards Indian Railways’ goal of “Freight Loading from Every Shed” and empowering the local economy. Jammu Division remains committed to further promoting such freight loading in the future.
